Another month, another issue, and what a bunch of superb cover disks we've got for you this time round. We start off with the rather exciting, scary and eminently playable Wolfchild from Core Design which is admirably assisted by Team Yankee Il — a war game set in the Pacific Islands. On disk two is the enjoyable beat-em’up, Double Dragon 3 which tops the bill, ably backed up by three of the finest games ever to appear on Public Domain.
If adventures are your love and you’re having a few problems with your fave game then your best bet is to ask the Boggit. You can guarantee that he’ll have all the answers.
Always with our ear to the ground, Amiga Action brings you another overwhelmingly revealing preview. Game design supremo, Archer Maclean, currently recovering from his recent brush with the Teflon- slick Robert Kilroy Silk, is embroiled in a follow-up to his excellent snooker simulation, Jimmy White’s Whirlwind Snooker.
The aim of the project is to achieve in the field of pool what Whirlwind achieved in snooker simulation. Using a similar but enhanced interface, Archer is doing his research in the many variations of the game, and the little quirks and peculiarities that pool players like to talk about in the pub.

pecial Forces, a fast moving
strategy/action title is set for a February launch from simulation experts, Microprose. The game is set amid a maelstrom of terrorist incidents, drug deals and military junta takeovers. In a bid to restore order, the government has enlisted a four man team of elite soldiers to undertake highly delicate and clandestine missions — the Special Force unit.
The player can command the unit through 16 strategic missions — four in each of the game worlds; Arctic, Desert, Temperate and Tropical. Each mission is linked and the success or failure of one mission directly relates to the next.
Limitless options allow the player to plan tactics against fast thinking enemies controlled by complex A.I. routines. The strengths of the Special Force unit should be constantly accessed and where necessary small unit tactics applied by creating sub teams of one or two members. Special Forces has’ been
programmed by Sleepless Knights. The price and exact date for release are yet to be confirmed.

double agent. In the same mould as the dashing James Bond, Guy Spy is out to save the world thanks to Readysoft.
You, as Guy Spy, have the task of finding and then destroying the Doomsday machine developed by the evil arch-villain, Von Max.

informed you that there have been sightings of the evil despot in Berlin.
It’s your job to get to Berlin as quickly as possible because Von Max is preparing to search for the fabled crystals which are the keys to unlimited power the evil one needs im order to operate his fearsome Doomsday device.
Unfortunately for you, Von Max has dispersed his evil minions, a collection of ruthless terrorists, around the world with only one intention — to murder you before you can reach Von Max and the Doomsday machine.
There are romps on board a ski- lift, fights in gondolas, scrapes in South American jungles and confrontations in Cairo. Graphically, Guy Spy is superb and is similar to Cruise For A Corpse in design. There are nearly 2000 frames of animation and an astounding six megabytes of graphics spread over six disks.
Guy Spy should be available within the next month although a price has not yet been released.

Named Cavitas, it puts you in the place of a fighter pilot who has to rescue a group of researchers stranded on an alien world.
The gameplay is a mixture of shoot'em-up and adventure spread over six levels. Each of the sections has over 100 screens of action so it should keep you occupied for quite sometime.

Team Yankee 2 is set in the Pacific Islands which have been overrun by Russian forces. As commander of the Team Yankee tank units, you must try and regain occupation of the islands with as little loss to your units as possible.
One thing that we have noticed about the sequel is that it is a lot harder than its predecessor so it’s going to take some time to beat.

Early next year the amazing Euro Disney opens its doors to the public. But that isn’t their only break into Europe. Recently Infogrames have signed up the Disney label and will now be distributing all of their products over here.
{oy Among the first releases from Disney will be a Roger Rabbit product; Hare Raising Havoc. It features all of the characters from the movie including Roger, Baby Herman and Jessica in a classic cartoon plot.
The press launch was held at the Ritz, London’s top hotel. Software bods were invited down to glance at all of the new products and eat loads of food.

Spikes, flames and other hazards make Steg’s life harder by popping the bubbles on contact. Lucas Film revealed that they have snapped up the rights for all three Star Wars films.
Nothing would be confirmed, but after several hours of questioning by journalists, they hinted at the fact that an adventure game based on the Star Wars saga may possibly appear on the PC and Amiga.

BATTLE COMMENCE
Before you can start your onslaught on the enemy forces you will be required to choose a commander to control. Select one of the files that are shown and then allocate a name to it (your own name should do). This file will also record just
how many victories and losses you achieve.
You now have to equip your tanks for the mission ahead, but you can save time by simply choosing the default equipment! These should be perfectly adequate for what’s ahead, and you can get into the action a lot quicker.
The in game controls are pretty simple, really. Nearly everything is controlled via the mouse in a user friendly icon system. A list of the
icons have been provided so you know what they mean. The best idea is to simply spend your first game getting used to how your tanks work before playing seriously.

You control Jason as he pursues his father and the people holding him captive. The joystick controls are standard with left and right sending Jason running in the respective direction, and up and down making him jump or crouch.
As you start the demo you will be quite vulnerable with your fist being your only weapon (activated by the fire button), and agility your only defence. However, by collecting several power- ups strewn throughout the level you can activate the transformation and turn into the Wolfchild.
Although you will still only have your punch as a weapon, you can collect any of the extra weapon icons that can be found. Each weapon works slightly differently from the other and only practise will enable
you to find out which
ones are the best.
Collect those power-ups So that you transform ' into the Wolfchild. It'll make things easier!
Later that night Jason arrived to collect his
father from the lab, but he saw things were
wrong before he had even gone through the
front gate. Jumping out of his car he raced into the
building only to be confronted by the dead bodies of his
father’s team, and it only took a few minutes to work out that his father wasn’t amongst them.

For months, Jason’s father and his team worked at their secret government lab. They were soon making headway with the project solving any problems that arose along the way. Little did they know that there were other sources who were following their progress with interest!
Then came the fateful night. They were all working late at the lab just putting the finishing touches to a certain part of the project. Suddenly the door caved in and a squad of about eight men burst into the room, fire exploding from the barrels of their guns.

Here is a game which | first saw last summer, and after what seems like an eternity it’s finally here.
Now | know you liked Captive from Mindscape because you all bought it in your thousands, and that means you are probably going to be equally enthusiastic about Knightmare.
Set in a Middle Earth world of forests, dungeons and castles, this game incorporates all of the features you saw in Captive plus a few more. The game begins in a forest, not unlike the Great Wood, and as you are as weak as a kitten and as naked as a jay bird, you need all the help you can get. If you are stuck at this point, here are two handy hints to get you started.
Having killed one killer bunny and turned him into a rabbit pie you'll find that his crusty remains pack a lethal wallop if you chuck them at other bunnies. There are four tree monsters which block the exits from the forest and each one of them is looking for something. Click on each tree and it will tell you a riddle.
If you can’t find the object to solve the puzzles, return to the entrance door and search the ground beside the lever on the wail until you find a twig. Throw this piece of wood at the tree which is searching for its child and your problem will vanish. This initial part of the game is a little frustrating and difficult to find your way around in, (a

In Knightmare you can travel around inside a high-speed railway wagon. Getting into the carriage is easy, but mind how you get out. If you land on the electrified rails you'll
suffer heavy damage.

The dungeon graphics look better than those used in Captive, but they do

This very familiarity gives me the niggling worry that the game may be a little too much like its predecessor, and from time to time a feeling of Deja Vu
sweeps over you, but that old tingle in
the spine is still there when you stand
before a closed door and prepare to
insert the golden key. The fact that Knightmare is not an infinite series of computer generated levels makes it more interesting than Captive as the game feels more the product of a cunning human mind than the random roll of a computer dice. I’ve got boxes of software under the bed which, having played for an evening, | never load again.
Knightmare will not see the underside of my cot until | have given it a
long and thorough thrashing! There is a lot in it that I've seen before, but in this case one good format deserves another.

Death Knights of Krynn — Monster Challenge | still haven’t managed to sneak a copy of this Dragonlance game out of Strategic Simulations, but that doesn’t mean that | don’t know how to solve it.
With only my razor sharp brain, a
sensitive hooter, (and the official clue book) I’ve come up with some extremely handy hints for dealing with the monsters in this creepy RPG;
Skeletons — Only take half damage from edged or pointed weapons. The Mace of Disruption does twice normal damage. They are resistant to magic attack so you should a cast Good magic

Dragons — All but undead and spectral dragons can be damaged with a stinking cloud. The Mace of Disruption is the best attack against the undead dragon. Constant hacking is the only method of dealing with the spectral variety.
Litch — Keep out of reach of these nasties. Use long range attack and fire magic.
Undead Roc — This is hurt by fire and takes full damage from edged and pointed weapons.
Undead Creatures — Many of the undead (e.g. Ghouls, Zombies and Wraiths) are easily ‘turned’ by clerics, so try this strategy first.
Fire Minion — Fireballs actually heal this monster, so throw away your box of matches and use cold spells to do double damage.
Death Knight — This enemy hits with a heavy fireball, so before crossing swords with him cast Resist Fire on your group. Because he generates fear among all around him he must be killed quickly. Kender will be immune to the fear.

Walk down the corridor from whence he came (please mind the fireballs!) and wait for Xanathar to follow. Now then, remember the Wand of Sylvias that the dwarves gave you as a reward for the safe return of their Monarch? It’s to be hoped that you have not been picking your nose with it or stirring your tea, as your life depends on it. (Unless, that is, you wish to do J. Houseley’s famous Dance of the Sugar Bum Fairies).
Wave the wand and cast its influence at the Beholder and you'll find that he doesn’t like it and will back off. Using this technique he can be manoeuvred between the two ornamental
pillars and straight into an alcove. At this point he gets a sharp reminder of who is the boss and you can now use the wand for any other use you wish, i.e. cleaning out embarrassing ear wax. | think the game is referring to your nose and not a piece of wood. In this case | can tell you that this is an Old Wives Tale as | have been picking my nose for years and it still manages to be the most magnificent proboscis in the Great Wood.
You don’t mention what piece of wood you are trying to pick up, so | assume that this is the root of your problem (ROOT — Geddit!). The piece of wood you are looking for is the Granadilla Wood which is found in the first jungle scene you meet.
For those other Larry enthusiasts who have got the wood but can’t find a knife to cut it, here is what you do. Return to your house and look in your mailbox. What you find there can be given to the girl on the beach who will reward you with a knife — amongst other things!
More Secrets Uncovered
On Level Eight of Dungeon Master | have found a long corridor in the Southern edge_ of which | can't get to the end. Each time | walk down the corridor | get teleported back to the beginning. | have found two pressure pads in the corridor and covered them, but that doesn’t help. On Level Nine there is a chest with a gem in it and a scroll saying, “Put the gem back.” What am | meant to do? On Level 10 there is a corridor full of pressure plates and a message on the wall which says “Vroom”. Whenever | step on one | am moved all around the corridors. | don’t know what to do here at all.

The long corridor on Level Eight has a secret door in the side wall towards the far end. To open the door you simply walk to the second pressure pad, (it's about five steps back from the end wall) stand on the pad for a few moments and the wall to the NE will open.
On Level Nine, you will find the locked gate with a chest behind it. Pull the lever to the right and a pit will open which lets the chest drop down. Close the pit again, then go back the way you came to find the downward staircase and the chest will be there. Get the gem then go back towards the closed gate.
Continue walking past the gate, following the right-hand wall, and you will come to some stairs leading up. At the top of the stairs you will find a pit at the end of the corridor. Drop the gem down this pit and the gate downstairs will open. The Vroom Machine is simply a high-speed walkway which takes you around a circular path. If you turn to look at the side walls while you are moving you will see places where you can step off.
One note of caution: If you step off at the wrong
spot you'll enter a blue transporter field which will send you right back to the start of the level.

No, Maxine (December Issue) you're not the only girl who owns an Amiga, but we’re definitely a rare species. I’ve got two problems which | badly need help with. In The Immortal from Electronic Arts, how do you get past the octopus-like monster? No matter what | do, it grabs me and pulls me under the water. In Shadowgate, how do you get past the Blue Wyvern? | always get killed.

Just like a female, you don’t tell me what Level of The Immortal you are referring to! If the monster you are talking about is Norlac on Level Seven then you solve the problem by paddling straight down the whirlpool. The Norlac will follow you and die. The Blue Meanie at the top of Shadowgate’s Left Tower needs something pretty powerful to knock it out of the sky.
Perhaps you should consult the stars for a clue. Go to the Observatory and carefully search the star chart. Who knows what will catch your eye?
Stuck in the Labyrinth
| am stuck in the Labyrinth of Singe’s Castle (Dragon’s Lair II). | have run round all of the corridors for hours but got nowhere. Sometimes | hear what sounds like laughter, but this does not seem relevant to the problem. If you know of any system or route to get me through | would love to know it.

I'd love to know the route as well. According to the dusty volume of solutions from under my bed, there are no specific directions to complete the Labyrinth, you simply randomly move through the maze using left, right and up and you eventually reach the second part of the scene. Once you do get there, move the joystick left or right to get away from the skeleton’s hand.
When Dirk lands, push the joystick left or right, but this time towards the direction from where you just jumped from. I’ve got to say that this game drove me mad, because | kept getting killed no matter what | did. By the time | finally gave up, my tree house was full of blue smoke and owl feathers.

Rocket Ranger Saves the World For about three years | have slaved and tried my darndest to complete Rocket Ranger without success.
The most pieces of the rocket ship | have ever got was four, and finding the second Nazi Base seems to be
almost impossible. Saving the Professor and the chick from the Nazi Zepplin is absolutely impossible without blowing up the Zepplin. The agents get killed almost always at the beginning of the game.
And every time the game tells me to, “Hurry and fly to Germany before the chick gets nuked” she ends up getting fried anyway. Finally, what the *@*! are you supposed to say to the Germans when they take you hostage, because no matter what | say, the reply always seems always “Torture them!”
Please help Oh Boggjit. If you do | swear | won’t draw any more crude pictures on your cover page.

EOTB lacks speed, depth and good programming. When encountering another character, heavy disk accessing slows down EOTB to nil and when
combat takes place your party is effectively paralysed. Even opening a door in the presence of a monster can be a major challenge. Try taking a staircase down. What happens in the first fifteen seconds? Nothing! DM lets me use weapons and magic in near real time and take stairs in no game- delaying time.
| do admit that CSB has a rather slow screen update, but it’s far superior to EOTB. As for real speed, Captive from Mindscape is light years ahead of all of them. The depth of play in EOTB is far less compared with DM. There is no subtlety, nothing more than meets the eye. And what do you think of the central staircase in DM? Clever or what? Anyone could design the EOTB dungeon.
You can tell that EOTB is a badly written program from the fact that it covers three disks. Even CSB has just two disks and the extra one is not even necessary for the game proper. | have an A200 with an extra 2 Meg plus bridgeboard, and six floppy drives. (I do more than just play games).
For EOTB | must disconnect all of the drives otherwise the game crashes when taking a staircase. And even though there’s an extra 2 Meg, the game takes no advantage of it.

| just hate to think what you’d say if you hadn’t liked it! To be fair, both DM and CSB were designed to run on the Atari ST, then they were translated for the Amiga. For this reason, the design team knew that they had to be extra clever to get the software efficient enough to cope with the limited memory.
In the case of EOTB, the game was designed for the IBM PC which runs up to 3 times the speed of the Amiga (although the sound is awful!). For this reason the speed and graphics deteriorated during translation. However | agree that for sheer depth and cunning DM is still the king.
Just to prove that it only takes an interesting letter to win Boggit’s Star Prize, and to prove that | don’t hate all foreigners, (although | really think you should move further away from France) I’m sending you something which no doubt you'll soon find fault with. C’est La Vie!
Can you bring Order into Chaos? About a year ago | bought that awesome game Dungeon Master and after two or three months | completed it. | then bought Chaos Strikes Back, but alas have become stuck on the Path to Ku. | have found the Dragon’s Lair and killed all of the Dragons, but | can’t get past the eye sensor with the notice, “Do you have the Power?” | have tried everything but | can’t find the Towers of Power. In the Diabolical Demon Directory you can find a pressure pad which asks you to swop your valuables. If you do this you will receive a cross-shaped key. This key is needed to open the wall nearby. If you instead go down the stairs to the south you will find a cross-key lock, but the key from upstairs doesn’t fit it. Help me or | will dye my hair green and buy an Atari ST. L. There is also the difficulty that the
location of some objects is random in each player’s game so it’s difficult to advise them.
According to the official solution book, the Power Towers (Magical Leg Armour) is a randomly placed item somewhere on Level Four, which is the same level as the eye sensor. | was lucky that in my case it was in one of the three chests which lie in the rooms next door and guarded by the dragons.
| assume that after you killed the dragons you examined the contents of the chests? There is also a pit on this level which has four random items placed one at each side. Nearby is a keyhole on the wall. If you face the keyhole, a secret door will open in the wall behind you and a Giggler will appear and snatch something from your hand.
The pit you seek is behind that locked door. | think the problem with the cross-key has got you confused because you are expecting that when you use it something will open nearby and the key will disappear.
Instead | think you'll find that if you go downstairs and use the key it will open a secret wall upstairs, but the key remains with you.
Return to the spot where you placed your valuables and use the key to open a path. It is along this path that the downstairs cross-lock has opened up a shortcut. | think you will also find that the secret path can be opened with lockpicks as well.
Heaven knows when this scroll will reach you, (I think the Goblin Postie is taking to drink!) but here in the Great Wood, New Year is peeping around the corner.

Graphically, Elvira The Arcade Game is almost faultless. The parallax scrolling is smooth, there’s a degree of perspective and the animation, particularly of Elvira herself, is quite outstanding. The digitised intro sequence and the gothic style music all add to the atmosphere too. The only minor gripe we have is with the actual screen size which is a little on the small side. Thankfully though, this doesn’t hinder the gameplay which, it has to be said, is really very impressive throughout. Monkey Island 2 still relies on the Original control method of point and
click by using your computer’s mouse. Those of you familiar with the first game will know that this system

works remarkably well, therefore the same conclusion can be made for the second. Actually, it’s executed much better as carried objects are now graphically depicted which makes life considerably easier and presents the game in a more attractive and appealing way.

Fans of Threepwood’s | first adventures will be pleased to hear that the comical and hilarious content of the game is liberally, and without rib-tickling mercy, included
throughout. This adds a certain character to the game that is sadly lacking in many of today’s titles. As a result, you become more involved and absorbed in your adventurous frolics and capers!
The game is split into many parts,
each demanding that you perform a rather embarrassing and silly task. Nothing’s changed! Try not to blush, though, for it’s all part of the fun. After all, who said pirates can’t have a jolly good Roger every now and then?
DOUBLE YOUR MONEY
Lucasfilm, always thoughtful towards their games buying public, have incorporated two versions of the game on the disks. This allows the novices and naff gamesplayers among you (and let’s face it, that’s the majority of you), to play an easy game, while ‘experts’ can tackle the tougher adventure. There are significant differences in both styles, so it’s certainly worth spending some time exploring the avenues that they each present.
Monkey Island 2 — LeChuck’s Revenge should, if justice is to be done, follow in the footsteps of its predecessor by plain sailing up the charts. It could even occupy the Number One position so look out for it, soon.
